(Back to Sunday School Overview Page)

Enrollment:

Contact the church office or one of the Sunday School teachers.  Visiting children are also welcome to visit Sunday School.

Attendance:

Regular attendance at both church and Sunday School is encouraged.  Recognition for attendance is given by the presentation of certificates on Rally Day.  Attendance at another Lutheran Sunday School or a Lutheran Church Service where there is no Sunday School will be accepted as Sunday School attendance providing an attendance card, visitor card, or note with the signature of a proper official or parent is returned to the child's teacher as evidence of attendance.

Offerings:

The weekly Sunday School offerings are allocated for mission purposes in accordance with the proposals offered by the children of the Sunday School leaders.  Envelopes are provided at the beginning of each Sunday School year for students in Primary and all lower departments.  The students are encouraged to use them as a method for making regular gifts to the Lord.

Birthdays and Baptismal Birthdays:

Children's birthdays, especially in the lower grade departments, are observed in some manner.  Some classes encourage the children to consider special birthday offerings which are used in special purposes.

Baptismal birthdays are observed in the lower grade departments.

In our Primary Department (2nd Grade) our students are presented with Bibles for their own study of God's Word.

Visitors:

Parents, other relatives, and guardians have the privilege and are encouraged to visit classes at any time.  Personal discussions about the children, procedures, etc. should be reserved for extra time either before or after the class time.  Please wait for the children in the hallways outside the classroom until they are dismissed.

Memory Work:

The committing to memory of selected Scriptural passages, portions of the Catechism, and songs and hymns, is still a useful learning experience.  We encourage parents to share and assist in this learning experience.

Rally Day:

Rally Day for the Sunday School is usually held in September and marks the beginning of the Sunday School year.  It is also the beginning of a new church or parish season.  Services on this special day endeavor to rally all people of every age of the Christ Memorial family to greater service to the Lord and His Kingdom.

Christmas:

Children of the Sunday School are expected to participate in the special children's worship service at Christmas time.  The purpose of this special service is to allow the children the opportunity to participate in their own program through music, drama, etc.  The programs are planned so that a minimum of class time or special rehearsal is needed for preparation.

While individual gift-giving is not encouraged, the children are asked to bring gifts for the less fortunate.   These are collected at the time of the service and then taken to the organization or group designated by the Sunday School as the recipient of the gifts.
