Christ Memorial Lutheran Church announces its participation in the LCMS Ablaze! initiative by sponsoring 50 Days Ablaze!  50 Days Ablaze! is a small group study and devotional campaign that builds mission awareness and participation.  The timeframe for Christ Memorial’s participation is the fifty days of Easter, from March 23 (Easter) to May 11 (Pentecost) of this year. Christ Memorial invites all members and other interested individuals to join together in a 7-week journey focusing on individual and congregational spiritual growth and mission commitment.

The objective of the 50 Days Ablaze! is personal and congregational spiritual growth and increased mission outreach involvement. The emphasis is on Christ’s grace and redeeming love for us.  The mission response is seven-fold, based on what LCMS World Mission calls the Seven Mission Responses: Learn, Pray, Give, Tell, Send, Go and Celebrate. The 50-day journey builds toward a Pentecost mission celebration.  Christ Memorial plans to use 50 Days Ablaze! as a springboard for ongoing small-group development and mission work. 

The participation is three-tiered:

• Individual - Members read daily devotions based on the Seven Mission Responses. Each week of the journey focuses on one mission response.
• Group - Members meet weekly in small-group Bible studies to reinforce their personal discoveries in a group environment, studying Scripture and discussing mission involvement based on the Seven Mission Responses.
• Congregational - Members participate in weekly corporate worship services with sermons based on the Seven Mission Responses and in a mission fair.

Most churches want their members to be involved in “ministry”.  Often this equates to having members serve the needs of the congregation (Sunday School teachers, Altar Guild, Board of Elders, etc.).  With 50 Days Ablaze! there is a deliberate effort to go beyond that –to reach out to the unchurched and dechurched in our neighborhood and community, in our country and around the world. 

The 50 Days Ablaze! initiative is being lead by the Christ Memorial small group mission, under the leadership of Small Group Missionary Kristi Roegner.  The goal of this campaign is to activate/involve 60 small groups in 50 Days Ablaze!  Following completion of the campaign, the Small Group Mission will provide study and mission resources for the continued operation of existing small groups and the formation of new small groups.  These actions are in direct support of the Christ Memorial Vision Statement which states that we are to be a congregation of small groups and not just with small groups.
